Resolute Josh

I'm back from my annual trip to Colorado and boy is my liver tired. It was full of the requisite binge drinking, eating, and general feeling bad about myself and my family. Actually, that's not fair. My family (and life) are great, it's just that it's so easy to revert to a snivelling teenagers the second you see your parents. It was also hard seeing my grandparents. I'm not sure why. It most definitely has to do with the passing of Andrea's grandma this year. That was a rough one. There's always this looming, inevitable shadow of death that lurks behind us all, but there's something particularly sad about the ones whose heels are closer.

So, it was tough. A good amount of crying in my car. Another thing that tends to happen when you suddenly surround yourself with family. It's just so much to bear. Take, for example, the "Annual Inapproriate Death Toll Of People I Don't Know". Every year when I come home, I am bombarded with stories about all the siblings of cousins of people at church's nephews dying tragically in a car accident, hanging themself on a doorknob, or plunging themselves off a bridge. Just this trip alone I think I can count a good dozen people who died. People who I didn't know existed but now I feel terrible about.

Seeing my friends was great. (Dave, if you're reading this, it was good seeing you) We had some arcade fun at Dave and Busters, a place I had written off long ago as "video games for frat assholes and cowboys". Which is still probably true, but when we went the place was pretty empty which suited our purposes just fine. We got a chance to hang out with my friend Mike. He quit drinking at least a year ago and has recently started again, this time through a program called "Moderation Management" or something. I hope it works for him. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. We also got to meet this girl that Mike met on myspace. I'll hold my comments until later.

Anyhow, this was going to be a happy-go-lucky post where I write a bunch of funny New Years Resolutions. Instead, I'll try some real ones:
write in this thing more
call my grandparents more
get a directing job
make more videos
work out more
eat less crap

um, that's about it. Thanks for reading.
